Press Briefing – Study Report Launching on Single Use Plastic: Hidden costs of Health & Environment in Bangladesh

On 21st October, 2019 ESDO organized a press briefing to launch a study report at its head office .The Study report is on Single Use plastic: Hidden costs of Health and Environment. The study reveals that Bangladeshis throw away about 87,000 tonnes of single-use plastic every year, about 96% of which is from food and personal care products packaging.  About 35% of the total of these wastes are sachets, which are completely non-recyclable. ESDO recommends that Government of Bangladesh should take necessary steps to ban Single Use Plastic.

ESDO Chairperson and former Secretary Syed Marghub Murshed, Prof. Md. Abul Hashem, former Chairperson and Professor of the department of Chemistry, Jahangirnagar University, Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Former Additional IGP, Bangladesh Police, and Secretary General of ESDO Dr. Shahriar Hossain, other study team members of ESDO along with journalists from electronic and print media were present on this press briefing.
