Press Briefing on “Mercury-Added Products : Bangladesh Situation”

Every year, 14772 kg mercury is spreading in our environment, which has serious threat to public health and environment. These findings have come out on a study report, “Mercury added products and Available Alternatives in Bangladesh” published today by Environment and Social Development Organization-ESDO at 11 am at our head office which is placed in Lalmatia, Dhaka. In the press briefing, they have emphasized on availability of mercury free alternative products.

The study was to assess the country situation of mercury added products, findings the availability of its alternatives, suggest people to use suitable mercury free alternatives products available in Bangladesh. Also they discussed about country situation in respect of using mercury in product as well as the progress in ratification on mercury elimination.

On the press briefing, Syed Marghub Morshed, Former Secretary, The People’s Republic of Bangladesh Govt. and Chairperson of ESDO, Prof. Dr. Abul Hashem, Chairman of Chemical Division, BSTI and Executive Board Member of ESDO; Dr. Shahriar Hossain, Secretary General of ESDO; Ms Siddika Sultana, Executive Director of ESDO and other team members of ESDO were present.
