A stakeholder consultation workshop was organized by Environment and Social Development Organization – ESDO at Women’s Voluntary Association (WVA) Lalmatia, Dhaka where the current country situation of mercury-added products along with the viability of phasing out the products and the importance of ratifying Minamata Convention was highlighted.
Syed Marghub Murshed, Chairperson of ESDO and Former Secretary of Bangladesh chaired the session. Ms. Keya Khan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change graced the event as the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Abu Jafar Mahmood, former Chairman, Department of Chemistry, University of Dhaka; Prof. Dr. Abul Hashem, former Chairman, Department of Chemistry, Jahangirnagar University; S M Abu Syed, Assistant Director, Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution – BSTI; Ismat Zerin Khan, Head of Legal, Daraz Bangladesh Limited; Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, BUET; Dr. Mahfuzar Rahman, Country Director, Pure Earth; Md. Zahangir Alam, Assistant Director, DSHE, Ministry of Education; Md. Saidur Rahman Khan, Program Manager, Health Service Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare were present at the workshop.
