Workshop on Chemical Pollution: Plastic, Mercury & PFAS in China

At an ancient village, Xixi south town of Huizhon District of Huangshan city of Anhun province, 51 NGOs and local government people were participated in two days’ workshop with half of dental amalgam issue, organized by Toxic Free China, BFFP China. The workshop was held from 11 to 13 August on Chemical Pollution: Plastic, Mercury & PFAS. The participant has huge interest on amalgam and positive to phase out for children and women now and support phase out amalgam soon.

In August 15, Toxic Free China in Association with ACEF organized a day long discussion on Mercury-Amalgam: Impact to Environment and Health at ACEF conference hall. Prof. Zing, Ms. Xiynz of Ministry of environment, NGOs, Lawyers, journalist were participated. Prof. has a presentation on Amalgam focusing its impact and need policy decision to phase down to phase out date. He highlighted the need of stop amalgam for children and women now and total phase out as soon as possible but he support 2025 dateline. He said this dateline is good enough for any country.

Lawyer Mr. Jingwei Zhao, proposed to prosecute the dental clinic and dentists who are still using amalgam in Chain, he said “I can take initiative to do PILC public interest litigation court case on this issue to create awareness amongst the dentist and public; I believe this will help to formulate a national policy to ban amalgam in China”. These were really encouraging.

Dr. Shahriar Hossain from Environment and Social Development Organization-ESDO Bangladesh invited as an international expert in the both workshop and meeting.
