World Environment Day 2022

The air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink, as well as the numerous items we require in our homes, at work, and for leisure activities, all are provided by our environment.
Overpopulation, pollution, overconsumption, fossil fuel combustion, and deforestation have all had an influence on the physical environment in recent years. Climate change, Soil erosion, poor air quality, and undrinkable water have all been triggered by Anthropogenic activities like these. Plastic pollution, is one of the primary contributors to climate change as plastic is produced from fossils, burnt after use, or discarded informally. As a result, these plastic wastes poison the whole ecosystem, including soil, air, water, and everything else, aggravating climate change.
To stop this plastic pollution on March 2, 2022, Heads of State, Environment Ministers, and representatives from 175 nations adopted a resolution at the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5) in Nairobi, to negotiate an international legally enforceable agreement to “stop plastic pollution” by the end of 2024. It will form an Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee with the goal of finishing a draft treaty by the end of 2024. A series of multi-stakeholder dialogues are now being held for the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee’s ad hoc open-ended working group. During the inaugural multi-stakeholder meeting, participants addressed potential solutions for the plastics life cycle.
Dr. Shahriar Hossain of ESDO is currently in participating the conference. In preparation for the INC on plastic pollution, especially the marine environment, ESDO has submitted a statement to the Ad hoc open-ended working group (OEWG).
It is our primary obligation to safeguard the environment, as we are nothing without it. We require the environment for our survival, but it does not require us. It is capable of thriving in the absence of humans. This global agreement on plastic pollution is a step toward environmental protection. Because we have only one earth, so we should take care of it.
