Reception in Honor of Attorney Charles G. Brown, President of the World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry

The Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO), in collaboration with the Asian Centre for Environmental Health, hosted a special Reception in Honor of Attorney Charles G. Brown, President of the World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry.

This significant event aimed to advance efforts in eliminating mercury from dental practices, safeguarding both human health and the environment. Discussions also highlighted the importance of updating dental education curricula to ensure sustainable mercury-free practices in the future.

The reception also served as a pivotal platform to discuss the upcoming Minamata Convention COP-6, with a special focus on accelerating the mercury phase-out in dental practice. Key stakeholders, including government officials, dental practitioners, and academicians, gathered to explore ways to collectively contribute to a safer, healthier future while strengthening Bangladesh’s leadership in implementing the Minamata Convention’s phase-out measures.

The event was held on Tuesday, 18th March 2025, from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Lakeshore Grand, Gulshan 2, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

We were privileged to have several distinguished participants in attendance, including:
Attorney Charles G. Brown, President of the World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry
Dr. Fahmida Khanom, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
Syed Marghub Murshed, Former Secretary of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and ESDO Chairperson
• Alongside dental practitioners, academicians, ESDO board members, and ESDO team members

As Bangladesh prepares to play an active role in the upcoming Minamata Convention COP-6, this reception played a vital role in reinforcing the nation’s commitment to mercury phase-out policies and advancing initiatives for improved environmental health.
