High-level Policy Dialogue on ‘Mercury-Free Dentistry: A Significant Transition to Phase-out Dental Amalgam’’

Phasing out Mercury Amalgam will ultimately advance the ban of mercury import and use in dentistry and reach the key goal of ratifying the Minamata Convention in Bangladesh. It’s time for dentists to do their part for the greater good, and mercury amalgam-free dentistry is a key indicator of Bangladesh’s healthy rise within the global movement. To discuss this important issue ESDO in association with Bangladesh Dental Society – BDS, Department of Environment – DoE, and Asian Center for Environmental Health organized a High-level Policy Dialogue ‘Mercury-Free Dentistry: A Significant Transition to Phase-out Dental Amalgam’ today at the Department of Environment Auditorium.
Respected Chairperson of ESDO, Syed Marghub Murshed, Former Secretary, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh chaired the session.
Habibun Nahar, MP, Honorable Deputy Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change graced the event as Chief Guest. Keya Khan, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, was the special guest of the event. Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kasem, President, Bangladesh Dental Society attended the event as Guest of Honor.
Furthermore, Masud Iqbal Md. Shameem, Director, Department of Environment, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Charlie Brown, President, World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry; Dominique Bally, Vice-President Africa, World Alliance for Mercury-Free Dentistry; Florian Schulze, Director, European Center for Environmental Medicine; Dr. Tanvir Ahmed, Professor, BUET were the guest speakers of this event.
Prof. Dr. Humayun Kabir Bulbul, Secretary-General, Bangladesh Dental Society and Principal of Dhaka Dental College provided a welcome speech.
Dr. Shahriar Hossain, Secretary General of ESDO moderated the open discussion session and Siddika Sultana, Executive Director of ESDO provided the vote of thanks.
Besides, representatives from Govt. officials, organizations, academicians from dental colleges, and print and electronic media journalists were present at the event.
