“Plastic waste, Refuse derived fuels (RDF) and Cement kilns”

The project would be implemented in three major cement production areas of Bangladesh. More specifically- Dhaka, Chattogram, and Khulna regions where cement plants are available. More including, the information about the imports and exports, the presence of RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) production facilities, and government rules and regulations on RDF (National Policy & Standards) would be identified by coordinating with Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, Department of Imports and Exports Control, Department of Environment (DoE), Bangladesh Industries Corporation, Department of Explosives, GoB (Government of Bangladesh), etc.

The prime objective of this project is to ban the trade and burning of RDF in Bangladesh. The objective following actions will be followed-

  • To detect the specific sources (Cement Kilns, Incinerations, Boilers, etc.) where RDF is used and quantify its amount per year.
  • To review the government policy and standard level of using RDF.
  • To identify health and environmental risks by using RDF in Bangladesh.
  • To increase awareness about RDF with the ultimate goal of getting it banned from Bangladesh.
