Workshop on “Building a zero waste lifestyle and raising awareness on mercury free skin lightening products”

On May 5, 2025, the Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO), in association with Life Project For Youth (LP4Y) successfully organized a comprehensive workshop at Green Village, LP4Y, Tushvandar, Lalmonirhat, Bangladesh. The event brought together 30 enthusiastic youth participants from the Green village, aiming to foster sustainable habits and promote safer personal care choices.
The workshop featured insightful sessions on key environmental topics, including the risks of plastic pollution and eco-friendly alternatives, strategies for adopting a zero-waste lifestyle through conscious consumption and community action, twin pit composting as an effective method for managing household organic waste, and the dangers of mercury in skin lightening products. Each presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A, encouraging participant engagement and knowledge sharing.
ESDO conducted a follow-up survey on “Skin Lightening Products: Tracking Changes in Consumer and Seller Knowledge and Health Impacts”. This initiative aimed to assess progress in public awareness and behavior change regarding the use of mercury-laden cosmetics, as well as any noticeable health outcomes.
The workshop concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing their commitment to adopting sustainable practices and spreading awareness within their communities.
