Roundtable & Youth-Policy Dialogue: Accelerating Zero Waste in Dhaka

On International Zero Waste Day, 30 March 2026, policymakers, city administrators, youth groups, media professionals, and development partners from across Dhaka convened for a dynamic “Roundtable & Youth-Policy Dialogue on Accelerating Zero Waste in Dhaka,” jointly organized by ESDO and the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). We were honored by the presence of Mr. Md. Abdus Salam, Honorable Administrator of DSCC, as Chief Guest, alongside Mr. Md. Jahirul Islam, CEO of DSCC; Air Commodore Md. Mahabubur Rahman Talukder, OSP, BPP, PSC (BD/8499), Admin, Chief Waste Management Officer, DSCC; and Rubina Ferdousy, Deputy Secretary, MoEFCC. Their participation enriched the dialogue and reinforced shared commitments toward a Zero-Waste Bangladesh.

The discussions emphasized the urgency of adopting zero-waste practices, highlighting resource conservation and sustainable waste management systems as critical priorities. In a powerful interactive session moderated by Dr. Shahriar Hossain, Senior Technical Advisor, ESDO, youth voices expressed both concern and optimism for building a cleaner, more responsible future.

As city authorities and policymakers outlined their visions, the dialogue underscored a central message: achieving zero waste requires collective action from both citizens and institutions. We extend our gratitude to our gracious host, Dhaka South City Corporation, for facilitating this impact-driven event as we continue paving the path toward zero-waste objectives.
