The 3rd Container Group Meeting, which focused on strengthening due diligence in Bangladesh’s textile sector, was held on 22 July 2025 at New Cheers Restaurant, Dhanmondi, Dhaka. Organized by ESDO (Environment and Social Development Organization) and BILS (Bangladesh Institute of Labor Studies), with support from FEMNET e.V., the event brought together key stakeholders, including government ministries, trade unions, industry associations (BGMEA and BKMEA), and civil society representatives. The meeting aimed to address critical labor rights and environmental challenges in the textile industry.
Key highlights from the meeting included the presentation of Community-Based Monitoring (CBM) and Worker-Based Monitoring (WBM) results, which provided insights into working conditions and environmental impacts in the sector. Participants discussed actionable plans to reduce pollution, improve worker health and safety, and strengthen labor rights. A major focus was on fostering collaboration among stakeholders to drive sustainable change, particularly in Ashulia, a key textile manufacturing hub.
Presentations were delivered by ESDO, BILS, and BLF (Bangladesh Labor Foundation), with additional insights shared by government ministries and industry experts. The meeting reinforced the collective commitment to advancing due diligence and accountability in Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector, ensuring a more ethical and sustainable future for workers and the environment.
This gathering marks another step forward in aligning industry practices with international labor and environmental standards, promoting transparency and long-term improvements in Bangladesh’s textile industry.
