Youth Voices Rise for a Plastic-Free Future

On 28th July 2025, ESDO successfully hosted the Youth Dialogue on Plastic Pollution & Treaty Negotiations at the ESDO office as part of the Break Free From Plastic Global Week of Action 2025. Young leaders gathered to discuss the Global Plastics Treaty process, with a focus on the upcoming INC-5.2 negotiations and Bangladesh’s stance on key issues. Key topics included ending plastic incineration, prioritizing plastic reduction over recycling, ensuring a just transition for waste workers, establishing a dedicated global fund based on the polluter-pays principle, and banning toxic chemicals in plastics.

The session concluded with dynamic discussions as youth participants shared bold ideas on how to amplify their voices in the treaty process and drive the phase-out of single-use plastics in their communities. The fight against plastic pollution demands the active involvement of young people—informed, empowered, and united for change.
