A transformative “Youth Empowerment Camp for Sustainable Future” event was organized by the Environment and Social Development Organization – ESDO on 9 and 10 January 2024 in collaboration with GAIA in Dhaka and Rangpur to educate and empower 60 selected students in Dhaka and 60 selected students in Rangpur during Refuse Single-use Week.
Throughout this immersive camp, participants were engaged in a variety of educational sessions and hands-on activities aimed at raising awareness about single-use plastic pollution and its detrimental effects on both the environment and human health.
Refuse Single-Use Week is celebrated to raise awareness about the environmental impact of disposable items. It encourages individuals to reject single-use products and embrace sustainable alternatives, promoting a reduction in plastic waste. The week aims to foster a collective commitment to preserving the environment and promoting responsible consumption habits.
In an effort to enrich the learning experience, the camp featured interactive sessions where participants actively engaged in practical exercises to refuse single-use plastic. These hands-on activities included community clean-up drives and participation in refuse initiatives, instilling a sense of responsibility and environmental sustainability.
