Environment and Social Development Organization – ESDO organized the country’s first-ever Single-use Plastic-free Fair in Dhaka at the Lalmatia Housing Society School and College on the 25th and 26th of March 2022. Single-use plastic alternatives were displayed by local SMEs at this exhibition. Various individuals from all across the city came to the two-day-long fair.
Two similar fairs were organized before the Dhaka fair on the 7th and 8th of January 2022 in Shahpara Center Playground, Gangachara Upazilla, and on the 24th and 25th of March 2022 in Rangpur City. There were around 50 stalls set up in three places, and all of the items on display were single-use plastic-free, and environmentally friendly. Even in the selling and purchasing of items at the fair, no plastic packaging was utilized.
Clay Ornaments, Leaf Utensils, Paper Cups, Handicrafts, Woodcrafts, Clay goods/ Earth crafts/ ceramics, Yarn swings and bags, Clay crafts, clothes, jewelry, and so on were among the products shown by various Small and Mid-size Enterprises, and plastic alternative entrepreneurs. The exhibition also included programs such as movies on zero waste and home composting, information on rooftop gardening, a demonstration of how to easily manage garbage at home, and so on. There were also organic food kiosks that were 100% eco-friendly and devoid of single-use plastic.
