Environment and Social Development Organization – ESDO, has started its journey in 1990 with the polythene bag ban movement and we are the pioneer organization to ban Plastic Bags in Bangladesh. From policy advocacy to both physical and online campaigning, ESDO has been campaigning successfully for many years to educate people about the adverse effect of Single-use plastic items on both our environment and human health for a long time and right now ESDO is emphasizing on Single-Use plastic so it can be Ban from Bangladesh. With that purpose, ESDO has drafted a roadmap that shows how we can phase out single-use plastic from our country strategically.
To give an overview on available and practiced local solutions to this single-use plastic pollution in the south Asian & Southeast Asian context, available eco-friendly alternatives of single-use plastic, local government initiatives, plastic waste trade in this region, how best to approach people to shift the narratives to beat plastic pollution crisis combinedly, ESDO organized the 2nd session of Sub-regional Campaign on Ban Single-use Plastic on 24 November 2021 through online platform Zoom.
Representations from sub-regional countries such as India, Nepal, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines were present at the event. The representatives were very enthusiastic and provided their valuable recommendations from both Bangladesh and their respective country’s perspective.
