Dr. Shahriar Hossain, Re-elected as the Board of Directors of the Pacific Basin Consortium for Fourth Straight Year

Dr. Shahriar Hossain, Senior Policy & Technical Advisor of Environment and Social Development Organization-ESDO has been re-elected as a Board of Directors of the Pacific Basin Consortium (PBC) for 2024 to 2028. This is the fourth consecutive year; he is being elected a Board of Directors.

Dr. Shahriar Hossain, a pioneering figure in the global anti-polythene/plastic movement, has dedicated 13 years to campaigning against plastic bags, notably spearheading the ban on polythene bags in Bangladesh. Since 1990, he has been a dedicated full-time volunteer at the ESDO, serving the poor and combating global plastic and toxic pollution. Currently, Dr. Shahriar Hossain serves as a freelance environmental journalist, ecologist, and social justice advocate. His impactful contributions have significantly influenced environmental health, protection, and nature conservation. Committed to social development and ecological rights, Dr. Shahriar introduced the concept of eco-friendly livelihood in Bangladesh, actively working towards creating an eco-village and Zero Waste Community in rural areas.

The Pacific Basin Consortium on Hazardous Wastes (PBC), established in 1986, promotes dialogue and cooperation among scientists, industry professionals, government officials, students, and policymakers. Originally focused on hazardous waste, it has expanded its scope to include broader environmental and health issues. PBC aims to facilitate technology and information exchange in the Pacific Basin, build a network of experts in research and policies related to environment and health, develop sustainable and affordable solutions to environmental health problems, provide objective analysis, review, and critique on health and environment issues, stimulate, coordinate, and conduct research to promote sustainable policies for managing environmental and health issues in the pacific basin.
