ILPPW stands for International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. It is a global awareness campaign held every year to highlight the dangers of lead exposure and promote action to prevent lead poisoning, especially among children and pregnant women.

How ESDO is involved in ILPPW?

Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO) has been actively involved in Bangladesh’s ILPPW activities, particularly through public awareness, advocacy, research, media engagement, and campaigns against lead in paint and other consumer products.

ESDO’s activities around included:

Awareness rally: ESDO organizes rally on ILPP week each year, starting from the National Museum/Shahbagh area and moving toward the High Court/TSC area, to raise awareness about lead poisoning.

Art for Change: ESDO organized an “Art for Change” event at the University of Dhaka Faculty of Fine Arts on 22 October 2025, using art and creative expression to communicate the dangers of lead exposure.

Lead-safe paint advocacy: ESDO has worked on the issue of lead in paints, including advocacy around Bangladesh’s 90 ppm lead limit for paint and stronger enforcement of lead-safe standards.

Research and evidence: ESDO conducts and publishes research on lead contamination and its impacts, helping bring the issue to policymakers, journalists and the public.

Media and public communication: ESDO uses social media, press releases, videos, posters, factsheets and media engagement to make lead-poisoning risks easier for the public to understand.

Policy advocacy: The organization engages with government agencies and other stakeholders to push for stronger policies and implementation of lead-control measures.

ILPPW provides the global campaign platform, while ESDO contributes through Bangladesh-focused research, advocacy, public awareness and communication activities.
