Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on “Enhancing Environmental and Occupational Health Standards in Formal ULAB Recycling Factories”

The Environment and Social Development Organization- ESDO, supported by UNICEF Bangladesh, successfully conducted a stakeholder consultation workshop on “Enhancing Environmental and Occupational Health Standards in Formal ULAB Recycling Factories” under the project titled “Addressing Children’s Environmental Health with Particular Focus on Lead Poisoning in Bangladesh. 🏭⚙️ Held on 18th September 2024 at Four Seasons Restaurant, the workshop saw active participation from representatives of the Department of Environment (DoE), Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Labor and Employment, BSTI, Dept. of Labor, DGHS, IEDCR, Nipsom, OSHE Foundation, BEF, BLF, BILs, accumulator battery manufacturers & exporters of Bangladesh, different e-waste recycling factories, academicians, and health experts. 👩‍🔧👨‍🏫👨‍🔬

The session was chaired by Syed Marghub Murshed, the respected Chairperson of ESDO and former Secretary of the Government of Bangladesh. Key speakers included Dr. Shahriar Hossain, Secretary General of ESDO, Siddika Sultana, Executive Director of ESDO, and Dr. Hasnain Ahmed, Health Officer specializing in Environmental Health, Climate Change, and Emergency Preparedness & Response. 🗣️💬

The workshop focused on improving environmental health standards and worker safety, especially addressing the risks posed by lead contamination from Used Lead Acid Batteries (ULAB). 🔋
⚠️ Participants collaborated to develop actionable recommendations for better safety practices, creating a safer and more sustainable industry for the future. 🌍🤝
